On August 24 Kameleon Concepts is organizing the 2nd edition of ‘Tropical East’ in Oosterpark.
In collaboration with the KIT, Hotel Arena, Generator Hostel and the residents of Amsterdam East they transform Oosterpark into an urban jungle for the young and old.
Tropisch Oost: Tunes from all over the world, good food, dance workshops and more…
Can’t get enough of the tropical holiday jitters? Dancing on every corner of the street, bobbing through the sea with a fresh coconut in your hand and all the beautiful things you want to carry back to the Netherlands in your way too small suitcase … Don’t worry!
On Saturday, August 24, it’s time to bring the Tropics to Amsterdam again!
For the second time, Hotel Arena Amsterdam, Generator Hostel Amsterdam, De Tropen and the KIT Royal Tropical Institute are opening their backyard doors for this.
With tunes from all over the world, the world market, good food, tropical drinks, DJ’s, live music, dance workshops and a lot of Tropical Hangouts, Oosterpark will turn into a tropical paradise again.
The dome in the Oosterpark: where the tropical action is
Here you can go wild again on all the tropical tunes that pop out of the Grooveproof DJ bus. :)
And the Food Fiesta, Baramaribo and Mr.Plaentye again provide tropical delights so that we have enough energy to continue dancing.
Line up Urban Jungle Stage (dome):
- Kasanoba DJ
- El Natty
- Don rain barrel
- Gente Quente
The Latin Area is being hosted by Rum On The Rocks and Soepeltjes.
It is heating up over there. It kicks off with Rum On The Rocks and DJ Matta! After that Soepeltjes continues smoothly with Don regenton, De La Lita en Jacob More.
The Latin Area is based in the garden of De Tropen; the café and restaurant which is linked to the Tropenmuseum and the Royal Tropical Institute.
Naturally, the kids have also been thought of.
They can let themselves be painted by Denise Kort and enjoy tinkering in the Knutsbus.
They can also enjoy the inflatables and hoops at Floris Bro.
(This of course also applies to adults. ;))
Kunstbazaar Oosterpark is taking care of a large part of the market this year.
Between Hotel Arena Amsterdam and Generator Hostel Amsterdam you can go shopping at their market.
Relaxation & Dance workshops
In addition to all that dancing, eating, shopping, jumping and hovering, a little bit of tropical relaxation is also allowed. This is possible in one of the many Tropical Hangouts.
You can also enjoy cool performances. For example: you can participate in dance workshops from MiraTango – Argentinian Tango.
Neighborhood initiatives | Connection in Amsterdam East
Tropical East stands for connection. Connection of cultures, ages, people from Amsterdam and different backgrounds.
All neighborhood initiatives are therefore an important part of this.
Silent Disco in Amsterdam East at Generator hostel in Oosterpark during Tropical East
Come join the Silent Disco at the Generator Hostel Amsterdam East’s terrace.
Here, you can enjoy freshly made Cuban sandwiches and tasty tropical drinks as your headphones transport you to that rocking Latin party.
It is a swinging experience in a design-led hotel, overlooking Oosterpark.
This former zoological university building has flexible and spacious social areas, filled with creative design touches like glass-fronted elevators, a light and airy café and an outdoor terrace.
Generator Hostel have turned the former lecture hall into an impressive chill-out lounge and bar, while the old library is now a relaxation and private events room and the original boiler room has become a secret late night bar.
Cello relaxation / meditation sessions
This is possible on the pitch at Hotel Arena Amsterdam during one of the cello relaxation / meditation sessions of The Wong Janice.
On her website we read:
She creates cello soundtracks for different moods and emotions, using a loop machine to create low drones and sweeping cello melodies on top.
Times to participate during Tropisch Oost:
13:00 – 13:15
13:30 – 13:45
14:00 – 14:15
14:30 – 14:45
Do you also want to participate? Do you want to be part of the action?
Enough space for market holders, food trucks, ‘musical’ programming, dance schools and other great initiatives.
