Hello. A simple question: do you skate, or are you a skater?
I’m Lex — skate instructor, local private guide, and storyteller in Amsterdam and its countryside.
Four-language private local skate guide and organizer for Amsterdam and beyond, including Texel, Friesland, and the (pretty unknown) flower bulb region above Amsterdam.
Skate•A•Round tailor-made experiences, combining mini workshops, excursions and skate lessons by an IISA-certified skate instructor in Amsterdam and beyond.

Customized skate tours with mini workshops and stories in urban and rural Amsterdam

Skate instructor and local guide in Amsterdam (and beyond) combined! As both an experienced skate instructor AND a local private guide, I combine these two professions in entertaining and educational sightseeing skate tours through Amsterdam and its surrounding countryside.
The skate tours take place in Amsterdam itself (or at a car-free skate hotspot), in the surrounding countryside (such as rural Amsterdam North / Waterland-East, the beach or Zaanse Schans), around the tulip fields north of Alkmaar (during spring), on Texel and even in Friesland if you would like to experience the history of the famous Eleven Cities.
By the way: Are you already comfortable skating on public streets? For these tours you should be reasonably streetwise on skates. (During the tour you’ll naturally improve even more.) How about you? And your skating partner(s)?
If not, we’ll simply choose one of Amsterdam’s excellent car-free skate locations instead. See the examples on the right and below.
An example in 2026 (and 2025)

Lex’s blog post about Amsterdam as a great skate city has been published on Skatefresh.com.
This August we welcomed our partner Skatefresh back to Amsterdam. We explored the city together, skated many kilometres and even crossed the IJ on one of Amsterdam’s mini ferries — a completely new experience for many participants.
Thank you, Asha, for your lovely compliment!
And here is Asha’s and Lex’s announcement for Amsterdam Skate Weekend 2026 (August 7-9).

Private skate tours in the city

I’ll teach you advanced skating techniques while showing you the city at the same time. Tours range from 5 to 20 km and last up to half a day. Expect plenty of smooth tarmac—although, as in any city, never 100%. ;)
€288.88 for up to 8 people (including 21% Dutch VAT).
Just one or two of you? Or would you prefer a shorter tour? Simply send me a message and I’ll prepare a tailor-made skating experience. Looking for a full-day adventure? Same procedure. ;)
My full-day fee for 2026, including tour design, Amsterdam advice, organisation and guiding, is €444 (including 21% Dutch VAT), based on a maximum of 12 participants.
Prices exclude skate rental, public transport, drinks and lunch. (Need to rent skates in Amsterdam? Just ask.)
If it rains, we simply switch to a bike tour (or perhaps a footbike?). A quality rental bike costs approximately €16.50 for three hours.
I’ve also created a sample map of one of my private skate tours with mini workshops.
New opportunities with excellent tarmac and beautiful scenery include Beach Island, the new cycling boulevards, both sides of the IJ River and the Weespertrekvaart.

A custom-made sporty experience in Amsterdam and beyond: We are Flexy and we know it.

The (L)exception: not a private Skate•A•Round tour, but a small-group experience with mini workshops included
No new date has been scheduled yet. At the moment I’m fully occupied with private lessons, private tours and volunteering for Friday Night Skate. That may change, though, so feel free to ask.
Every now and then it’s fun to make an exception to my private-only concept.
How about a small-group skate tour in Amsterdam (maximum 6 participants)? We’ll combine sightseeing with mini workshops on spacious squares. Sunday morning is by far the best time, as the city is still quiet. That’s our anti-cyclical approach.

A small-group skate tour with mini workshops? During the tour we’ll regularly stop to practise together: braking, turning, sliding, stepping off kerbs, small jumps and much more. The first workshop theme is scissors. Mastering scissors makes crossing tram tracks easier and improves your braking technique.
Of course, we won’t forget Amsterdam itself. Along the way you’ll also discover several hidden gems.
The price is €28.28 per person (maximum 6 participants) for this three-hour skate workshop tour.
Interested? You should already be able to brake confidently and have mastered the scissors technique. Send Skate•A•Round a WhatsApp message, email or simply give me a call.
Including stops on attractive spots in town to do a mini workshop together: better breaking, turning, sliding, off the sidewalk rolling or jumping..and so on.
Skate tracks Amsterdam to roll on your own, created by fans of Friday Night Skate Amsterdam.
Over the years inline skaters, participating at Friday Night Skate, have uploaded their Amsterdam skate tracks. This is a hobby page.
This self-do skate-route webpage from the widely known FNS group-skate contains tracks within town and in the countryside. Like Waterland, direction beach, IJburg and so on. You find small distances and long ones.
Part of of them are updated quite a long time ago.

Bob, thanks for taking photo 1 and posing for photo 2! Top. This makes me even happier.
